Survey report for the 2024 Fair Isle inshore fish survey is now available online . This research report, developed by UHI Shetland, was commissioned by the Fair Isle Demonstration and Research MPA Executive Steering Group and describes the results of the third consecutive Fair Isle inshore fish survey. The 2024 survey was conducted by UHI Shetland last summer aboard the MFV Atlantia II in line with the objectives of the Fair Isle Demonstration and Research Marine Protected Area (DR MPA) Designation Order.

Last week, we were joined in Fair Isle by Dr Shaun Fraser and Tanya Riley from UHI Shetland for an evening of research talks.

The Scottish Government has recently published a report to the Scottish Parliament which details the progress being made on implementing Scotland’s Marine Protected Area (MPA) network.

Written by Nick Riddiford and Kerri Whiteside, ‘Sea Area Fair Isle’ sets out the context and issues that make the Fair Isle case-study such a compelling one, and attempts to capture and convey what drives this community’s determination to protect Fair Isle waters.
